EVS Member hosts Ride & Fly with CQ & GM!

cq-rideanddrive-11-300.jpg You’ll be reading more about this fun happening between our Corvette family member, execs on the Corvette team and editor Jerry Burton of Corvette Quarterly.

There was quite a line up at this little gathering in Colorado….before we share some great pictures and the actual thank-you letter from Corvette Quarterly Mike received…let’s take you back to a couple emails leading up to this and then some brief comments from Mike Pond…cough cough….whom got a ride in a ZR1!!!!!!!!!!

looking back to when this began:
Corvette Quarterly is having a Ride and Drive in which Mike is hosting…..check out email from Jerry Burton!

“Dear Michael P,

We haven’t forgotten about your gracious offer to accommodate our Corvette ride and drive group in May, per your offer to Bobbie Jo at the National Corvette Museum.
cq-rideanddrive-8-300.jpg
Assuming your offer still holds, our planned route will take us near Royal Gorge on Sunday May 18th — late morning or noon time frame.

We will have four 2009 Corvettes in our fleet including the new ZR1. Present in our group will be Corvette VLE Tom Wallace, chief engineer Tadge Juechter, Gary Claudio and Harlan Charles from Chevrolet, Ed Glazer (owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Buzz Marston from the NCM board, and Corvette racing driver Ron Fellows. In addition, we will have and Terry Campbell, a legislative liaison for the Colorado State Patrol.

We will also have a photographer and assistant with us and we plan to produce a cover story for the Fall issue of Corvette Quarterly.

Please let me know whether this date works for you and whether you have any other questions or requests from us.

Thanks again and best regards,

Jerry Burton/Editor
Corvette Quarterly Magazine”

Mike this is awesome…you KNOW we want pictures before Jerry goes to print sir…this should be a memorable event for you. I appreciate you sharing this with us, so all of us can enjoy your moment! Thumbs up!

AND EMAIL FROM OUR CUSTOMER MIKE:
“Rick,
I plan on taking a few pictures myself. Hope to get to drive the ZR1 down the road a little ways. Maybe a ZR1 in my future !! I have been passing the word about EVS, and the pleasure it was to do business with you, to everyone I run across. It was a straight forward, no hassel, no B.S. way to do business!!
Take care, will be sending you pictures later.
Mike!”

AN EMAIL FROM JERRY BURTON ( I emailed him after hearing about this story)

“Rick
Small world isn’t it? That was an extremely generous offer from Michael Pond. Wish you could be with us. It will be a blast!
Best, Jerry Burton”

The gathering was held on the 18th last month and Mike was kind enough to share some quick thoughts , pictures and the actual letter form Corvette Quarterly here online. Remember watch for the cover story in a couple months!

“Rick,
We had five 2009 corvettes here in Colorado for a couple of hours. The guys all seemed to enjoy their flight through the Royal Gorge. I got to go out with Tadge Juechter for a ride in the ZR-1. That is quite a car!! It can go from a quiet, docile ride, to a full blown tiger in a heart beat. I couldn’t get over how mellow and easy this engine was in just normal driving. No different than the LS3 in the 2008.

cq-rideanddrive-13-300.jpgTadge said that they have been getting 22-23 mpg on parts of the trip, and that was with a little spirited driving. We blasted out of the helipad down the highway to 140mph in seconds, about 3 quick shifts at 6000rpm, and then layed on the brakes down to 50mph without so much as a chirp from the tires. And talk about tires, those things were steam rollers. The handling is superb.

You would have to be a full blown idiot to get in trouble with this car. It will look after its driver. Corvette has hit a home run with this baby. Asked Tadge how you go about getting one, and he said you have to know someone, so guess who’s my new best friend!!! He said he gets a blue as his (company car). I’m sort of partial to the blue, as mine really stuck out of the crowd.

Can’t remember all the names of the others that were there. Do remember Ron Fellows. Seemed to be a quite person.

Also put a good plug in for you, and told them what a pleasure it was doing business with you.
Will send more later, Mike”

cq-letter-copy.jpgMike , the pleasure is all mine sir. Thank-you for thinking of us. Here is a last email from Mike and the actual letter from Corvette Quarterly.
“Rick, I received a nice letter and an updated version of the Corvette Book from Jerry Burton yesterday. They enjoyed their ride through the Gorge in the helicopter. He said “everyone was thoroughly impressed with the thrill and the beauty of the rides”. I had a great time visiting with them, and especially getting to go out with Tadge in the ZR-1, What A Car!!!, and getting to see the new colors on the cars themselves. You take care & keep up the good work that you do. Mike Pond”
