Arizona - STUDENT of the WEEK!
Here is something great to see out of our young ones…nice young man hear wins Student of the Week honors in Tucson….just when you think the kids are lovin’ 4cyl, check out his favorite car…
AFTER POSTING THIS HUMAN INTEREST STORY, SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED, update in article
—————–
Age: 13
Parents’ names: Steve and Susan Bean
Favorite class: Humanities.
Activities in school: Football, National Junior Honor Society and the swim team. Bean also is in three advanced classes: geometry, honors language arts and humanities.
Last year he was the state champion in all three breast stroke events and placed third overall for all of Arizona.
“I like going to the big meets with the stadiums,” he said.
Activities outside school: Running around his neighborhood, on his own or with a friend, and competing in duathlons. During the summer, he participated in a weekly 800-yard swim and three-mile run at the Randolph Recreation Center, where he was the youngest athlete.
Whom would you have lunch with if you could have lunch with anyone, living or dead? He’d love to sit down with former “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Will Smith, because “he’s just really funny.”
Which books are you reading now? “Welcome to the Ark” by Stephanie S. Tolan.
Whom do you admire most? Bean admires his brother, Matthew, an 18-year-old freshman at the University of Arizona, because he’s “smart and always helps me with my homework.”
What’s on your iPod? Sum 41, Blink-182, the Offspring, Hawthorne Heights, New Found Glory and +44, to name a few.
Plans after high school: To attend the UA’s College of Medicine and swim for what he calls “one of the best” swim teams in the nation.
Dream job: Any sort of doctor, because “it just seems like a nice job.”
Favorite place in Tucson: Romero Pools, deep in Catalina State Park. He said it’s fun to jump in the pools with his friends.
Hidden talents: Baking banana, zucchini and pumpkin bread.
“I like to add my own bananas and extra food coloring to make it fun,” Bean said.
He has a sweet tooth and was inspired to bake after a friend’s mother sent breads and cookies to his house. During the fall and winter breaks, he plans to bake brownies and cookies, and take them to nursing homes.
Vouch: “He works hard in trying to achieve his final goals or his short-term goals,” Susan Bean said. “If he has free time, he will go to his grandparents’ house and help them. It’s whatever they want him to do — odds and ends, little chores. He just has a really kind heart. He doesn’t require any follow-up. He pretty much knows what he needs to do and follows through with it.”

Nice. Aways a pleasure to see kids doing well. Usually all you here are the bad things. Sometimes we forget how many well adjusted hard working kids are actually out there. Thanks for sharing
